Stephen Heard

Hello. I'm Stephen Heard, a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering. I'm the Vice-President of the UAMUG. I've been only a Mac user since December 2002. Before that I was a recovering Windows addict (I was actually on the Windows 98 Beta Team - the thought makes me gag now). After finally deciding that my Microsoft "habit," as I called it, was unhealthy, I turned to open source. My Thinkpad 600e was much happier running Mandrake Linux and editing my .rtf files in StarOffice (when it was still free) instead of Microsoft Office 97. Then one day I left my black laptop sitting on my couch for half an hour and it decides to refuse to boot up. What tipped me off that something's wrong was the distinctive smell of melted silicone. I called IBM Tech Support (which is excellent, by the way) and the "Customer Resource Technician" began to explain how to use the self-diagnostic program. Two years, six hard-drives, four fans, two rubber nubs, 128 MB of RAM, and a system board later, I gratefully gave my tired Thinkpad to my mom and began my voyage into the world of Macintosh.

I have a 1 GHz Titanium Powerbook G4. I like to call it the "Legacy" Model.

I play the bass guitar, I'm I also enjoy bike riding. I'm signed into iChat most of my waking day, although I can't guarantee I'll be there. Don't hesitate to instant message me, my screen name is snappytheturtle (on the AOL network). You can leave a message if I'm not there, and I'll get back to you.
