Meetings

Meeting Summary for February 12, 2004

The kickoff meeting of the year began with pizza, drinks and conversation. President Prachi Gauriar then took the floor and discussed the future of the UAMUG and the layout of future meetings. The general concensus was to make the meetings more social and informal situations, with more potent but shorter planned content. Members will be allowed to share whatever they please with the group without making a previous request, although a member still has the option to reserve part of a meeting for a longer presentation to the group.

We also discussed the "Interactive Tech Services" campaign. That's basically a way for the UAMUG to contribute to the university community while simultaneously learning new skills in digital photography, video, and web design. The plan is that theUAMUG will provide a free/cheap service to university departments and student organizations in which our members will create web pages, record/photograph events, and deliver edited content (like slideshows or short movies) about those events. All that is required is that the RSO or department contact us and pay for cost of materials. We will provide everything else for free. Unfortunately, ASG has decided not to help us buy a digital still or video camera, so we can't do too much right now. However, the general feeling of the group was to go ahead with what we can, despite the lack of funding from ASG. More small discussion followed, and then the meeting was closed.
