Meetings
Meeting Summary for September 10, 2003
This was the first meeting of the UAMUG. Around twenty people attended, which isn't bad, considering it was the first meeting. The majority of the meeting involved Prachi Gauriar giving a very casual presentation about what the UAMUG was about. He started off with a little Mac news from the summer, essentially talking about the new PowerMac G5, iChat AV & iSight, Panther, and a few other items.
Then he got into what the group was and what it wasn't. Essentially, he said that the UAMUG is a group of Mac users and people interested in the Mac that are here to build a community of Mac users, troubleshoot problems, and teach new skills to UAMUG members. He then said that the UAMUG is not officially affiliated with Apple, and that it is not interested in selling anything to anyone. Also, the UAMUG is not able to give away Macs. He did point out, however, that as a MUG member, you are eligible for discounts from some companies. Since Prachi is the one who gets email about this type of stuff, he said he would be sure to let everyone know about it when it happens.
Next, he got into what he planned on covering at meetings. These include things like reviews of products, upcoming technologies, the digital hub, gaming, geeky stuff, and whatever else the members want to hear about. The people that will present these topics are the members themselves. The officers have no real importance except that they're responsible for making sure we follow U of A guidelines.
All of the officers then introduced themselves, followed by a demonstration of the UAMUG website. He explained that he wanted some people to start writing articles for the Articles section. Afterwards, the officers answered some questions, the group decided on a meeting time and place, and Prachi demoed his iSight camera. The group decided to meet every other Thursday at 5:30pm in the Walton College of Business. This was primarily because it has a wireless network throughout, so that everyone could get on the network. Prachi said he would find out about a room ASAP and let the group know when he did.
